How much does the service cost?
This will depend upon many factors:
- Is she power or sail?
- What is her cruising speed?
- Does she have auto-helm?
- How many crew?
There are many factors to be taken into account. However, I will be able to offer a guaranteed quote by the nautical mile or by the day. On top of the quote you must also allow for the cost of travelling expenses, fuel, etc. I can only offer an estimate of these expenses but using my many years of experience I can offer a pretty accurate figure.
Can I come as well?
Yes, please do. A lot of owners come along on delivery jobs especially if they are new to boating or feel they are not quite experienced enough to make the passage themselves. But you must remember that this is a job of work for me and I have no time to stay in port relaxing in the sun.
What about delays due to repairs or the weather?
The weather is a factor which I have no control over. I will not leave with a bad forecast. It is therefore inevitable that sometimes it will be necessary to sit it out in port. This also applies to mechanical or electrical problems. In these situations I charge an extra nominal daily rate.
What about safety and insurance?
Safety is always paramount. Before I embark, I require your vessel to be in a seaworthy condition, be equipped with a fully operational VHF radio and carry an in date life-raft and flare pack. Insurance is optional for owners who are responsible for contacting their insurers and informing them that I will be delivering the vessel making available the details of the delivery passage.
